New Video Bible Release Challenges Da Vinci Code Fiction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PITTSBURGH, PA-May 19, 2006- WatchWORD Productions recently signed an agreement with Good New Holdings of Los Angeles to release the world's first Video Bible as the ultimate Christian answer to The Da Vinci Code movie. The WatchWORD Bible(r) presents the entire New Testament on video in a 10-DVD boxed set ($50), touting itself as "The Easiest Way to Read and Understand the Bible."

"We produced the New Testament to help address biblical illiteracy," says WatchWORD Bible creator Jim Fitzgerald. "I wanted to reach the many millions of people who find it difficult to read the Bible-even with good intentions."

He believes the timing is providential. Ron Howard's Da Vinci Code film, based on the block-buster novel, will tell millions that Jesus Christ was not the Son of God who died for our sins, but only a prophet that fathered a child by Mary Magdalene. The film and the novel debunk the New Testament, and with it, the foundation of Western Civilization.

The concern is real. A recent Barna survey shows that 2 million U.S readers had their faith changed by reading the novel. In England, the effect has been even greater. A survey last week revealed that 60% of Da Vinci Code readers believe that Jesus had children by Mary Magdalene. This is a big deal, in a country where one in five adults has read the novel. And here comes the movie juggernaut with the slogan, "Seek the Truth."

"When people don't know the Bible, they can believe a work of fiction like The Da Vinci Code," says Fitzgerald. "But now anyone can watch the New Testament for themselves. We've made it effortless and compelling. The truth can speak for itself."

The 14-year WatchWORD Bible project brings the world's all-time best-seller to a whole new format that Fitzgerald believes will change the way millions of people read the Bible in the 21st century-they can "watch it" on their TVs, computers, portable DVD players, iPods and cell phones.

The 26-hour production includes thousands of on-location scenes, word-for-word text on screen, narration, original music soundtrack and effects. Viewers can choose individual books or chapters from the menus. The modern language Contemporary English Version translation is used by Protestants and Catholics (an Imprimatur).

"The Da Vinci Code will stir lots of conversation about the Bible, Jesus Christ and the history of the Christian Church," said George Barna, founder of The Barna Group whose surveys are the most quoted among American evangelicals. "The WatchWORD Bible provides answers to many of those questions in the same movie-like format that raised them in the first place."

Good News Holdings has arranged for the DVDs to be available initially to over 140,000 churches through Christian Copyright Licensing International at www.seetheword.com or (800) 444-1988, and Promise Keepers.
