“CoMission for Children at Risk” will focus on transition to adulthoodColorado Springs, CO – Children’s HopeChest, a U.S.-based organization working with Russian orphans, will host an international gathering of relief and development organizations November 10-14, 2006 in Moscow and Vladimir, Russia.
The “CoMission for Children at Risk” conference will bring together 190 representatives of organizations and churches that help tens of thousands of orphans in nearly a dozen Central and Eastern European countries. The conference will focus on strategies that help orphans make successful transitions to independent living as adults.
“Orphans throughout the world face difficult economic, social, emotional and spiritual challenges,” said George Steiner, founder and CEO of Children's HopeChest. “This conference brings together groups sharing their best practices so we can all develop better strategies for giving orphans hope for success when they are finally on their own.”
Conference participants represent 90 organizations and churches that work with orphans from 15 countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to attending seminars and panels, participants will visit Children’s HopeChest programs at group homes, foster care homes, independent living and technical schools, and ministry centers.
Children’s HopeChest, founded in 1994 and based in Colorado Springs, has a staff of more than 80 employees in Russia. Over the past decade the organization has helped meet the long term needs of more than 15,000 orphans. In addition to Russia, Children’s HopeChest has work in Ukraine, South Africa and Swaziland. Funding for its programs comes primarily from churches, corporations, foundations and individuals in the U.S.
