ATLANTA, January 30, 2007 – The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) announced today the appointment of Gary W. Key as its new vice president for Advancement, effective Feb. 12.

Key will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising programs for FTE. He joins the organization from Morehouse School of Medicine, where he served as vice president for institutional development during the last five years, focusing on building endowment and increasing funding for research, programs and facilities. Key has more than 25 years of fundraising experience in higher education and in hospital and medical education settings where he has collectively raised more than $150 million.

“Gary brings an impressive record of leadership and achievement to FTE,” said the Rev. Ann Svennungsen, president of The Fund for Theological Education. “His focus, productivity and proven ability to work with colleagues and volunteers make him an excellent choice for this important role. What’s more, this position aligns Gary’s professional talents with his personal passion for the ministry of the church.”

Prior to joining Morehouse School of Medicine, Key served as assistant vice president for Development at Georgia State University and contributed to the success of a $95 million campaign effort. He moved to Georgia in 1998 from Southern California, where for 18 years he served in a variety of senior level fundraising positions for large medical center foundations, including Saddleback Memorial Foundation in Laguna Hills, San Antonio Hospital Foundation in Upland, and St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood.

A native of Jasper, Ala., Key grew up in South Orange County, Calif. He is married and has four children. He and his family reside in Marietta, Ga.

FTE is a leading national advocate for excellence and diversity in Christian ministry and theological scholarship. It also is a resource for educational and faith communities, offering programs that encourage highly capable candidates to explore vocations in ministry and teaching. Since 1954, the Atlanta-based organization has awarded more than 5,800 fellowships in partnership with others committed to quality leadership for the church.
