NEW YORK -- Humanity’s Team congratulates Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor on being named the recipient Wednesday of the Templeton Prize for Progress Toward Research or Discoveries About Spiritual Realities.

Taylor’s observation that the world’s problems can only be solved by considering their spiritual roots is aligned with the Humanity’s Team mission.

Like Taylor’s, our position is that humanity’s struggle is not merely economic or military. If it were, then the struggle would be over because the richest country with the mightiest military would easily win.

The struggle, as we see it, has to do with what people believe about each other and their views about God and life, which come from the sum total of our cultural values and most sacred beliefs, or our spirituality.

Only when people change their minds about these things can humanity claim victory in the struggle to bring peace and harmony to the world at last.

And this will only occur when humanity understands that the world’s problem is not a military problem, nor a political problem, nor an economic problem. The problem facing humanity today is a spiritual problem.

Yet when this is understood, then military, political and economic tools can help solve the problem.

Humanity’s Team is a grassroots spiritual movement whose purpose is to communicate and implement the belief that people are all one, one with God and one with life, in a shared global state of being, so that humanity’s behavior may shift to reflect this understanding. Dubbed “a civil rights movement for the soul,” the movement has some 15,000 adherents from more than 90 countries on six continents.

It is set to begin a 39-day, six-continent world tour to promote its ideas next week.

The tour stops are Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand, March 22-24; Tokyo March 27; Estoril (Lisbon), Portugal, April 4; Chisinau, Moldova, April 7; Birmingham, England, April 10; Offenbach (Frankfurt), Germany, April 12-13; Pretoria, South Africa, April 15; Buenos Aires April 22-23; Atlanta April 27-29; and Vancouver, British Columbia, April 29.
