NEW YORK-Dr. Joseph Jabbra, president of the Lebanese American University (with campuses in Beirut and Byblos), who will be visiting the United States in April, will speak on "The Presbyterian Legacy in a Troubled Land: Lebanese American University, Lebanon & the Middle East" at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 6 at 1 pm.

This event is free and open to the public. The Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church is located at 5th Avenue at 55th Street.

Last fall, President Jabbra wrote a guest editorial about higher education in the Middle East, which was published by the Providence Journal: http://www.projo.com/opinion/contributors/content/CT_lebuniv23_09-23-07_H8765JV.1941efa.html.

He participated in the 27th International Congress of Administrative Sciences last summer in Abu Dhabi. At the congress, he served as the rapporteur general and set the tone for the five day event by delivering a defining speech on globalization.

During spring 2007, at the 7th Doha Forum on Democracy, Development and Free Trade, Dr. Jabbra spoke on "Building Arab Capacity through Education." The April forum served as a framework for a dialogue aimed at promoting reforms and working out future strategies regarding the strengthening of mutual efforts to maintain global security, peace and stability.

A native of Lebanon, Dr. Jabbra is the author of ten books and is a respected university administrator. For more than 25 years, he has been a leading advocate of using higher education as a conduit for tolerance and peace in the Middle East.
